What are the benefits of epoxy flooring?

When it comes down to it—Epoxy flooring is the perfect flooring solution. Not only is it beautiful, but it can also be installed on most surfaces, is easy to maintain, and is extremely durable. The top 3 commercial uses for epoxy flooring factories and warehouses, the food or beverage industry, and pharmaceutical facilities. However, epoxy flooring is great for any application, both industrial and in your garage or home! Here are just a few of the benefits of epoxy floor coating.

EASY TO CLEAN

Epoxy is poured flooring. What that means is that once the epoxy has dried, it is completely seamless and solid. This makes it incredibly easy to keep epoxy flooring clean. It’s ease of cleaning is part of what makes this type of floor coating amazing for areas that are prone to messes. Basements, garage floors, factories, retail spaces—epoxy is an incredible solution for an easy to clean floor.

WATER AND STAIN RESISTANT

Epoxy is nonporous, meaning it will completely repel water and resist staining. There are few flooring materials that can withstand water like epoxy. Wood, laminate, even concrete flooring simply will not hold up to water and other liquids over time. You can count on epoxy to last.

INCREDIBLY AFFORDABLE

Did we mention that epoxy is probably the lowest cost flooring solution you’re likely to find? Per square foot, epoxy flooring is among the least expensive floors. That’s not to mention that because of its durability, the cost of maintaining or replacing your flooring is next to 0.

IT LOOKS FANTASTIC

Smooth, silky, and shiny. A professionally installed epoxy floor gives any space a gorgeous floor system that lasts. The beauty is also in the customization. Any design or logo can be added, as well as color. From marble effects to metallic epoxy floors—your flooring can be intricate, or simple. Your choice!

STRONG

How does “3 times stronger than concrete” sound? This flooring was created specifically withstand up to the toughest wear. Heavy machinery, heavy foot traffic, and extreme temperatures are no match for the strength of epoxy.

ENVIRONMENTALLY FRIENDLY

Due to its compounds, epoxy flooring does not flake and create harmful dusts. Even under extreme heat there is no harmful vapor. No harmful chemicals are required to deep clean it, because it’s a non-porous surface.

SAFE AND NON-SLIP

There is simply no safer flooring system than an epoxy floor coating. It is resistant to bacteria, making it an excellent choice for a kitchen or food preparation area. Working around moisture? No big deal, it is also mold resistant and non-slip—reducing harmful pollutants and safety liability.

Our Epoxy Flooring Process

While there are flooring installers that may offer an epoxy floor, it’s important that you do your research, and ensure that your installer is an epoxy specialist. Epoxy mixtures have to be extremely precise for best results—if the ratios are not exact, that could compromise integrity and durability.

Here is OUR PROCESS:

CONSULTATION AND CUSTOMIZATION

Every single one of our clients has unique wants and needs for their floors. Whether you’re after a simple color, no metallic or other effects, and no designs—or you’re looking for a completely customized floor for your cool space—we’ve got you covered. The consultation stage is our favorite part. We get to show our clients the incredible possibilities for their flooring.

PREPARING THE FLOOR

Before applying epoxy to your floors, we have to prepare the floor underneath it. Installing epoxy flooring is a 3 day process, and day 1 is all about prep. Epoxy will not adhere to a smooth surface, therefore our first step is to make it coarse. This is called SHOT BLASTING. The coarse surface allows the epoxy to bind, for a long term hold.

Next, we grind down any holes or irregularities in the surface—cracks, craters etc. This is to prepare the floor for patching. Patching is where we’ll fill all holes in the concrete surface for a nice smooth finish.

Finally, at the end of day 1 we’ll apply the epoxy primer. This is the coat that chemically bonds to the porous concrete surface.

COLOR AND FLAKE

On day 2, things really begin to take shape. This is where we pour your floor’s color, and add any flaking effects (if required).

TOP COAT

Before we begin on day 3, we will remove any excess debris or flaking that may have occurred during the drying process. We do this by simply scraping the surface until it is completely smooth. Once the floor has been cleaned of debris, we apply the chemical resistant top coat. This coat is what gives your floor the smooth-as-glass appearance.

TYPES OF EPOXY FLOORS AND HOW TO CHOOSE THE RIGHT ONE FOR YOU

There are several different types and looks to choose from when selecting your epoxy flooring. We gladly show our customers all of the options available to them—and what some of the benefits are of each type.

SOLID EPOXY (OTHERWISE KNOWN AS SELF LEVELING)

This is the perfect flooring solution for those that aren’t looking for a silky, glossy finish. Solid epoxy, once mixed, has to be applied rather quickly because it dries very fast. It’s rapid drying capabilities are very attractive to businesses or individuals that can’t wait several days for their new floor to set.

It’s called Solid epoxy because it does NOT use any water or solvents. This allows the solid epoxy to maintain its thickness throughout the drying process, as you won’t lose any material to evaporation.

With solid epoxy, you’ll be able to walk on your new surface in a matter of hours—and still have the durability and other advantages of epoxy flooring.

METALLIC GLOW EPOXY

There is just something about those old cars. When they’re restored to perfection, properly cared for, and professionally waxed the metallic shine is hard to beat. Metallic glow epoxy flooring mimics that pristine shine. A metallic glow epoxy floor adds a touch of class and luxury to a showroom or a garage.

Picture this: your Corvette is all polished up, you take it for a spin. When you get home, you pop open the garage doors and your beautiful metallic showroom quality floors just sparkle. The perfect place to park your masterpiece.

Metallic glow flooring has the light reflecting qualities of granite, without shelling out for the huge price tag. It’s also infinitely more durable than natural stone or a simple concrete floor.

Due to its smooth texture, there’s nowhere for dirt to hide. A simple pass with a broom or vacuum easily gets rid of any dirt or dust.

Metallic glow epoxy is also customizable, with a large range of incredible colors to choose from.

VINYL FLAKE FLOORING

Of all of the types of epoxy flooring, flake definitely gives the most rugged look. It has the flecked appearance of a natural stone, with none of the light-reflective qualities of the metallic glow epoxy. This is perfect for that “built tough” garage floor, while still maintaining the easy to clean qualities that you’d expect from your epoxy flooring.

Choosing your colors for your flake floor is one of the best parts. With flake, you’re able to mix and match colors to get a multi-toned surface. Don’t have a favorite color? Pick 3.

Flake epoxy flooring is perfect for bars, restaurants, garages, and kitchens. Not only do the vinyl flakes look fantastic, they’re also an extra layer of protection against gouges, scratches, and nicks.

METALLIC STAIN FLOORING

Metallic stain epoxy combines the beautiful shine of metallic glow epoxy, with a slight variation in color and pattern. Think of it as a reflective water surface with sunlight bouncing off of it. There are slight variations in color, but that’s what makes it gorgeous. Any high-end showroom or even home garage will be enhanced by this durable and stunning flooring.

Because of the durability and appeal of metallic stain epoxy flooring there is a movement towards this type of flooring in kitchens and bathrooms. Not only does it look great in the home, it all protects from and resists water.

HOW MUCH DOES EPOXY FLOORING COST?

Epoxy flooring, installed by professionals (which we highly recommend) ranges anywhere between $2-$12 per square foot. The price varies depending on style, type, and level of customization. It will also depend on the amount of floor preparation required pre-application.
